Giles Deacon in Motion

19 July, 2009

On Friday, the Fashion Society was at the V&A to attend the hottest event in town: Giles Deacon’s fashion show, displaying the best looks from his past 5 years’ collections. We were attending alongside key players from the fashion industry, from milliner Stephen Jones, to editors from style magazines such as Tank, and most importantly Giles himself who was standing right next to us before the show.

As true fashionistas, and to support one of the most talented CSM graduates, we had to be there. But if you missed it, no worries, we reported everything for you: read the whole report on Alize’s Blog de Tendances.

Enjoy your summer!

Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 09 – Credits photo Style.com

I don’t know how you feel about it, but Fashion Weeks to me seem like bank holiday, although we do have more work, it’s also very exciting! NY Fashion Week has been highlighted by – oh surprise! – genius Marc Jacobs so far! Beautiful, we thought at the Fashion Society, but everyone seemed to like something different about it!

What did you like so far in New York? And most importantly, who’s collection are you looking forward to next week here in London? Personally I am quite excited about Luella, Christopher Kane and Charles Anastase.

Anyway, what matters for us: updates about our events:

-CSM Show is mentioned on our flyer because it is our University’s students showcasing their talent for the international press to see – the only University showing at an International Fashion Week! Unfortunately, it is not open to the public, or to all students since it is such a high-profile event, but our President Pandora has obtained a ticket and we will make sure to report it all to you!

-We are excited about our Fashion Moodboard, at 5:00 on Monday, at bar Story in Camberwell! Isn’t a mix of fashion, magazines, cheap cocktails and lively debate about whether the 80s are really back the best mix ever? It will be an informal and fun opportunity to meet fashion-lovers, network and have a drink, so bring your old magazines and your inspiration! More here.

-The Future Fashion Afternoon will take place in London College of Fashion, John Princes Street, in the Rootstein Hopkins space, from 4:00 to 5:30. Details about guests TBC here soon. More here.

-Different to previously advertised, Prada beat us to the punch at Double Club so now we are heading to the delights of Brick Lane. Meet at the Vibe Bar from 7.30 onwards, goodie bags and competitions on offer! More here.

Do not hesitate to contact us via our email thefashionsociety@hotmail.com for more info.

Have a great Fashion Week! x

First, happy New Year to all from The Fashion Society team!

As you probably know since you were there having fun, our fashion show was a pretty good success and our models absolutely gorgeous, not to mention the fantastic designs created by very talented underwear-craftmakers! The prizes were great as well, ranging from chocolate to make-up, to must-have fashion books and – absolutely  priceless – an internship in a cool fashion company for our winner!

We raised lots of funds for charities as well, which was the ultimate goal of the event, so thank you to all for coming and for your donations!

You can view all pictures – backstage, make-up, the actual show, the dancers during the break, our team a little wild – on our Facebook Group here!

We will have more fabulous projects coming for this New Year so be sure to check out the site & Facebook regularly!

The Fashion Society is proud to be organising this Underwear Fashion Show, along with the Student Union of the University of the Arts, to raise funds for charities.

It is going to be fabulous indeed, but also very relaxed and fun most of all, so I hope on Monday 1st December, you all put on your nicest outfit, and come to admire the creativity of London students when it comes to underwear fashion design!

The event is set to start around 7pm and then will be followed by an after-party. We at the Society will be here to welcome you, to host the whole event and also backstage with the models and the usual catwalk rush! And most of all we will be here to make sure you enjoy yourself and have fun!

The winners of the design competition will be announced and receive top prizes, and there will also be a raffle to benefit charities with very nice prizes.

And most of all, the tickets are only £2! So what are you waiting for? Book your tickets here!

RTW Fall/Winter 2007 – London Fashion Week – Roksanda Ilincic

As you know, we have launched our logo competition a few weeks ago…and it was supposed to end up tonight. But we decided to give the talented-but-late amongst our members a last chance to show us your creativity.

And we have also decided to reward the winner with a special prize: 2 free tickets to attend a fabulous and Sold Out fashion show.

Roksanda Ilincic, London’s foremost fashion designer, is exclusively showing one of her performance and conceptual fashion shows at the V&A on 21 November, and we happen to have a couple of spare tickets for the lucky winner.

Roksanda is also a graduate of Central Saint Martins, and has been supported by Topshop, the British Fashion Council, and even Anna Wintour. She is one of the emerging talents in British Fashion and her show is definitely one of the most exciting event in town this month!

For the chance to win that prize, along with free membership and workshops with the society all year long, submit your entry to thefashionsociety@hotmail.com before Wednesday 19 November.

Update: Our Trash to Treasure workshop, originally planned on 12 November, is now re-scheduled on Wednesday 19 November. Details below.

Also: We are starting a Fashion Society Mailing List to keep our members informed of our events and projects, and how to get involved with us. If you would like to receive more information about the society, our newsletter or just say hi, drop us an email at the address mentioned above.

The Sixties Night was a success

6 November, 2008

collage

The Fashion Society launched in truly original and unique style with their ‘60s party.

The evening gave new members gave the chance to see what this brand new society has to offer. It also gave everyone the opportunity to channel their inner Bardot or Quant and dress to impress at this savvy swinging affair.

The DJ touched on every corner of cool and took the crowd on a journey through the most innovative and exciting decade to date. From classic soul anthems, to best of British mod, to America’s sweethearts and rockers.

Without so much as an Austin Powers velvet suit in sight UAL students looked fantastic in their mod monochromes and intricate print minis. Particular effort was made with hair and make up, which really added to the ingenuity of the night. Guests looked like they had just stepped off the 60’s Kings Road or a Beatles music video.

The party proved that the chic minimalist style of the ‘60s need not be confined to grainy BBC footage but that it continues to live and has great influence on design today.

Keep an eye out for upcoming Fashion Society events including workshops and fashion shows coming in the next few weeks.
